Hi, I am planning to buy a Hyundai Accent GLS 2008. (IL state). I am a first time auto buyer. I have below doubts to clarify. 1. Is Hyundai Accent is good to consider? I'm in Washington and don't have any plans to fly to NJ or Florida to buy a car. ;-) I have hard numbers. I could walk down to the dealer and buy a new 2008 base model Accent, without the A/C & the radio, for a hair under $10,000 even after paying WA State sales tax and all the dealer fees. A loss leader can also be used to pull someone in to buy a different product than he/she was thinking of. As in, "Oh, sorry, just sold the last of those $6988 Accents. How about a nice GLS for $12,000, or SE for $13k?" Or maybe an Elantra. Who knows, I'm not the Hyundai sales rep. You can dispute hard facts all you want. This comparison between Honda Fit & Hyundai Accent was pretty good. I only read the latter parts of the thread & didn't see any comparisons of the MPG of both cars. My wife's 2008 Accent, bought in Dec 2007 gave 30 to 32 thru the winter & rose just a bit as the weather warmed. I was a bit disappointed, thinking a Honda Fit might have given better MPG. it would be the Versa or a 2009 Fit. The current 2008 Fit isn't in that list because the current model, which was introduced in Asia around 2000 if I recollect correctly, suffers from being a little too small and twitchy on the highway. First, realize these aren't Hyundai's numbers you are comparing to--they are from the U.S Government--the EPA. Hyundai is required by law to report them on the car's window sticker.
