Dakota Axle Size
I'm getting ready to order a 2008 TRX4 Dodge Dakota (crewcab) with towing package, 3.92 gears, and full time 4 wheel drive. While looking at the Dakota brochure, it looks like if you order the part-time 4 wheel drive system you get the 9.25 axle and if you order the full-time 4 wheel drive, you get the 8.25 axle. Does anyone know why you would get a smaller axle size ... Read More...
2008 Frontier review
2008 Frontier quote Truckin- All in all, the Frontier is easily one of the strongest contenders in the midsize class in my book. Though the Toyota Tacoma certainly has its fans, and is a formidable competitor in most respects, it lacks the eagerness and responsive, sporty edge that the Frontier has. Even with the Dodge Dakota offering an optional V8, and the Chevy ... Read More...

Traded 2000 Dakota V8 5 speed Quad cab
After almost 8 years as a well satisfied Dodge Dakota owner, I have traded in my truck for a new 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 4X4, with manual transmission (6 speed), limited slip and the tow package. Since moving to Florida (we spend 7 months here, and 5 months at the NJ shore) I have been longing for a convertible. We still have my wife's 1999 Wrangler which stays ... Read More...
Re: Dodge Dakota [xscout]
"The Dakota pickup is not going anywhere in the near future. Chrysler just did a redesign for 2008 and a big horsepower jump for the available 4.7 V8 engine. What is Ford doing with the Ranger though? They have been running redesigns on that truck for 24 years now! Time for an all new Ranger." Yes, as I mentioned the Dakota was restyled with still an over-sized grill, ... Read More...

Re: Apples to Apples [sunburn]
Sunburn, The first one or two years of the 4.7 in a Dakota they used a 47 or 48mm throttlebody. In 2002 or 2003 that was increased to a 50mm. The camshafts are different for each year up to 2003. The 2003/2004 camshaft duration was changed to 243.5 degrees intake, 253.7 exhaust. I think that fuel delivery and timing algorithm changes permitted a decrease to valve ... Read More...

Re: V8 for 2008 Colorado [donn2390]
How in the world would they put a v8 into a chassis that they had to compromise and put a 5 cylinder in as it is? No other mid size (tacoma, frontier, possilbly ridgeline) has anything said about a v8 and they have bigger dimensions and possibly just barely the space for a small one. The Dakota is the only one with a v8 and it is the biggest of the bunch. Keep looking for ... Read More...
Re: 05 Dakota - advice? [greayregs]
I was in the fleet management business for a number of years and are very high on Dodge trucks. The Dakota has experienced a varied quality history over the years, with the first generation being very good, then a slip, then an upswing. A number of local companies use the Dakota along with S-10s and Rangers, as well as Time-Warner and Rochester Gas & Electric Co. ... Read More...
